ReplyDeleteYep, we went to Cafe du Monde and to Commander's Palace and to Felix's and to the Bourbon House (ran into some folks I went to school with!!) and to the Aquarium and to the cemetery (as my Mom rests there) and to Pat O'Brien's New Year's party at the old Jax brewery...and caught tons of beads on Bourbon St. (stayed at the Bourbon Orleans) and YES we went to the Cafe Degas...hadn't been before. It's really nice! Plus we went to old haunts from LSU days and when I taught in Jefferson Parish. Hub hadn't been to St. Bernard Parish so we went waaaaay down. Katrina did a job there. It's gonna take awhile. Hub was in the USMC so we returned via St. Francisville so he could pay his respects at General Barrow's grave (Grace Episcopal Church) and rode the ferry across to New Roads to see General LeJeune's statue in front of the courthouse. Did you know Louisiana is the only state to have two commandants of the USMC? Anyway, we had lunch at Satterfield's then headed north to Marksville, stayed at the hotel on the reservation nearby. It's very nice. I'd been before with my brother and his wife to the casino but hub hadn't been. It was really, really sad when we crossed the bridge into Mississippi at Natchez. Anyway, trust me, I brought tons of Creole mustard back to Virginia. Can't get it here. Virginia's claim to fame is peanuts...boring!
